...and there will be limited opening hours from 11.00am - 3.00pm until January 6th when we resume our normal hours of opening.

Only six sleeps to go!!!

The amazing Frances Stachl "Smarties" necklace has gone!!

BUT...we now have a very summery, multi-stone Barry Clarke necklace in the gallery. Each of these necklaces is unique...the last one on show at Avid was snapped up by a collector and has now arrived at its new home in New York.

Dorothy's road trip to Auckland was a raging success...

Dorothy made a road trip to Auckland last week, visiting many of our artists and coming back to AVID with loads of FABULOUS new work!

We have Christine Cathie's stunning, olive Mobius Strip back after being exhibited in The Objectives Art Awards at Mangere Arts Centre, Auckland; also Merilyn Wiseman's new Echo forms, Christine Thacker's striped vases, a new Emily Siddell glass and ceramic lei and Stephen Bradbourne's new murrine bowls in a range of sugary, soft colours.

Bronwynne Cornish's charming Mr and Mrs Lapin are just waiting to greet you as you pop into AVID before Chrtistmas!

Claudia Borella - Moment

Take a Moment to absorb this contemplative new work by Claudia Borella, now on in the front gallery.



Claudia is well known for her mastery of kiln formed glass.  Her work features in the collections of Sir Elton John, 
  • Toyama Institue of Glass Art, Japan, 
  • the Dowse Art Museum, 
  • the National Gallery of Australia Collection, and 
  • the Glasmuseet Ebeltoft, Denmark, amongst others.

She lives and works in Whanganui  where she runs workshops and masterclasses from her studio.  Formerly a tutor at the Whanganui Glass School, she is also  Honorary Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Canberra, Australia.

Kobi Bosshard - a real jewellery star

It has been a huge year for our jeweller Kobi Bosshard, with the publication of Damian Skinner's book about him, his retrospective exhibition, now on at the New Dowse, and now a video on U-tube... And on top of all this he continues to make the most beautiful jewellery.

The New White - John Parker ceramics exhibition now on

Tuesday night saw the opening of John Parker's brilliant new show The New White, showing the results of John's returning to explorations of a matt glaze, and development of some lovely new forms.

Christine Cathie - Continuity

Continuity - An exhibition of cast glass by Christine Cathie is on at AVID Gallery until Tuesday 28th May.  

People have been stopping in their tracks outside the window to look at this very eye-catching glass work.  A lot of people who have seen it while driving by at night have come back during the day to check out the glorious colours and luscious forms.

Japanese glass master shows exquisite work

Masahiro Sasaki's beautiful work shines.  Thanks to a wonderful image published in the Dominion Post, this show has been attracting a lot of people.  The show runs until next Tuesday (19th February). 
The title Rinkai translates as "critical point", that moment between two states when an art work comes into being.

Lynn Kelly makes jewellery about Central Otago

In Central, her new jewellery exhibition, Lynn Kelly shows the work she made as a result of her Wild Creations residency in the Old Post Office at Bannockburn.  The six weeks residency was sponsored by the Department of Conservation and Creative New Zealand, and allowed Lynn the time and space to be inspired by the local plant life and other natural curiosities.
